AiA Sandcastle Competition

Each year sand sculptors from all over the world travel to East Beach in Galvaston for the AiA Sandcastle Competition. It's one of the biggest competitions of its kind in the world and attracts the very best in the business. Prizes are awarded to winning sculptures in a range of different categories from the overall Golden Bucket award to the Crowd Favourite award. Visitors are able to view all the exhibits and cast their vote for their own personal favourites.

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Be it decreed that all lords, ladies and children shall come and celebrate the 34th Annual Dickens on The Strand, a holiday festival, where bobbies, Beefeaters and the Queen herself will be on hand to recreate the Victorian London of Charles Dickens. Characters from Dickens novels walk the street. Food and entertainment fill the area with sights and smells that take you back to another era.

Sand Art every Spring

  For almost two decades in the first part of June, Houston area architects, designers, engineers and contractors have taken their tools to East Beach in Galveston for what is considered one of the world’s largest sandcastle competitions. The Houston Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) sponsors this annual contest where some 80 teams have their eyes (and shovels) set on winning the prestigious "Golden Bucket" award.
